Hello!

I'm back from holidays (unfortunately)

I spent 10 fantastic days! On Friday evening my boyfriend finally arrived in Kampala. We spent the weekend trying to find our way in this huge and chaotic city, and after some time we actually did and we even got to like the place. But it is a quite exhausting city, with its noise, dust, fumes, staring people, annoying Bodabodas (bike taxis) and the chaotic traffic. The getting around in Matatus (taxi bussess), after some doubt in the beginning, turned out to be quite amusing and surprisingly comfortable.

On Monday we went down to Lake Victoria. After hours and hours of waiting (which seems to be the main hobby of the people here) we were being carried onto a fishing boat (the poor little guy struggled a bit with my weight ;-P ). Then we went for 3 hours on a small boat in the dark into uncertainty. We arrived around 11 on Banda Island and were being greeted by the owner with a delicious meal! The island is quite small and there isn't much to do, but we never got bored and the planned 3-4 days turned into 6! We slept in a small cottage at the beach with free sunrise directly delivered to our bed. We ere eating and just enjoying life at the beach under the lovely trees. Sometimes we took little walks or were rowing around the island; otherwise we were eating a lot of good food, playing games, chatting and laughing a lot. The kind of holiday we like!

The owner is quite unique! He retired at the age of 40, bought an island and is living there ever since. He has a very entertaining and sarcastic view of life and is stoned all day long. A very pleasant host! After these very relaxing days we went back to Kampala again, where I had to say goodbye again to my boyfriend. Being apart is much harder again after these lovely days and this weekend was not easy! But it's only 2 more months, we're almost through 2 third of the time. Looking forward to seeing each other again and to the travelling in December helps to go through difficult times.

In Gulu not much happened meanwhile, except that the chaos is a bit bigger now (When the cat's away, ...)

Hope you're all ok, i don't get much news from the rest of the world!

Anne
